SUMMARY:Hebron Haven Open Garden
LOCATION:Hebron Haven\, Dargle Valley
DESCRIPTION:Upcoming Open Garden: Sat 31 Oct & Sun 1 Nov. Set within the historic g
rounds of Hebron Haven Hotel, this charming country cottage-style garden su
rrounds a rambling hotel whose origins date back to 1849, when the property
served as an afsaal wagon stop, later evolving into a post office, trading
store and eventually a much-loved country hotel.\nThe garden unfolds aroun
d a broad central lawn, with a series of intimate “garden rooms” planted in
a relaxed cottage style around the bedroom wings and public spaces. Mature
oaks and plane trees form a generous canopy, providing cool shade for laye
red planting and quiet seating areas throughout the grounds.\nWinding paths
lead visitors past fragrant pergolas draped in climbing plants, creating g
reen tunnels that connect different parts of the garden. Benches are though
tfully placed to encourage pause and reflection, while small water features
add movement and the gentle sound of water across the landscape.\nA develo
ping collection of heritage roses is being carefully established, with plan
s for further expansion, while seasonal plantings include both traditional
cottage favourites and a growing emphasis on indigenous species. In keeping
with the property’s character, chemical use is kept to a minimum, with soi
l enriched through compost sourced locally.\nThe garden also extends toward
a dam and the uMngeni River frontage, where natural planting blends into t
he wider Midlands landscape. Over the weekend, guests are invited to enjoy
a special mini high tea at the hotel (at a small cost), or relax on the ver
andah and deck where lunches and suppers are also available. Natal Forest N
urseries will have a stand in the garden, and on Sunday there will be live
music. Come and wander, stay and enjoy the hospitality.\nDates: Sat 31 Oct
