Upcoming Open Garden - Sat 31 Oct & Sun 1 Nov: Amberfield Retirement Village in Howick invites visitors to explore nine wonderfully personal resident gardens, each one a unique expression of creativity, experience and a lifelong love of gardening. A diverse and inspiring collection of spaces, all carefully tended and full of character.

Gardens on show include:
7 Loerie Close – Rikki Abbot Wedderburn
8 Quail Lane – Charles and Colleen Bennett
2 Quail Lane – Karin Braithwaite
17 Francolin Lane – Liz Denison
9 Jacana Lane – Lyn Gemmell
3 Quail Lane – Glyn and Jean Harborth
1 Guinea Fowl Lane – Christa Lubbe
4 Harrier Lane – Giel and Barbara von Beneke
4 Mannikin Drive – Mike & Gill Wilson

Visitors will find deeply shaded garden rooms filled with camellias, fuchsias, impatiens and lobelias thriving in cooler, low-light conditions, alongside more traditional cottage-style gardens where heritage and hybrid roses mingle with perennials, groundcovers and softly arching seasonal blooms. These spaces offer fragrance, colour and layered planting throughout.

Other gardens showcase a more water-wise and low-maintenance approach, combining succulents and indigenous plants. Throughout these gardens, thoughtful elements such as birdbaths, benches, rustic tools and personal decorative touches add a sense of individuality.

A special highlight of the weekend is a Floral Art Display presented in the main Amberfield lounge by the Midlands Floral Art Society and Amberfield residents. This will be complemented by a free one-hour floral art demonstration at 10:30am on both days. (Sat 31 Oct & Sun 1 Nov).

Tea, light refreshments and baked goods will be available in the main lounge, with plant sales taking place throughout the weekend. Amberfield offers a warm, welcoming and deeply personal garden experience. A celebration of individual creativity within a shared community setting.
