There was definitely a need for speed at this year’s SAWMGA Western Mounted Games First Qualifier held at the Hay Barn’s Turn & Burn Arena on the 19 March 2016.
The day was filled with high speed thundering Hooves, Sharp turns and lots of excited spectators sitting on the edges of their seats. The event was well supported with even a few well known faces like Tanya Visser from the Garden show came to see what was happening on the day! Tummies were kept full by the Oosthuizen family’s Cherokee Café based at the Turn & Burn Arena.
The Games of the day included Poles 1, Speed barrels, Speed ball, bi-rangle, quadrangle and a barrel race just for fun. All which are done at high speed. The horses and riders were all turned out beautifully with R&B Ranch trying their hand at the games with their horses wearing only head collars!!
Turn and Burn would like to thank our Judge and course designer Craig Gillespie. We would also like to thank our event organiser, Candice Gillespie and Angie Schoeman, from Turn and Burn club for all her hard work with getting the event going. A special thanks to Tanya Krauss for score keeping and helping with commentary on the day.
Come join the fun in the next western Games event held on the 16 April or the Show jumping event held at the turn and burn Arena on the 3rd of April 2016. If you want to know more about Western Mounted games contact Craig Gillespie on 082 337 2025 or look us up on facebook Turn&Burn Stud.
