The “Beyond Mathematics” challenge is a Maths Competition which challenges learners to think beyond classroom Mathematics. Two levels are written - a Grade 4/5 paper and a Grade 6/7 paper. The top Mathematics pupils of Howick Prep were given the opportunity to write the first round in May. These papers were written by over 3 000 pupils of participating school across KwaZulu-Natal.
Eleven Howick Prep pupils went through to the second round of the competition which was held at Glenwood Prep in Durban on 8th September :-
Grade 5 - Cameron Crow, Rory Lake and Hannah Wing
Grade 6 - Jack Holyoak, Joshua Hopkins, Sarea Sewraj and Wade Reddy
Grade 7 - Amy Blyth, Craig Brummer, Willem Mentz and Stephen Whitwell
Four of our pupils were placed in the top 50, namely:
Hannah Wing, Rory Lake and Cameron Crow (all Grade 5), and Wade Reddy (Grade 6). They all attended the Prize Giving on 22nd October where Hannah received the trophy for first place overall in the competition and received some lovely gifts.
