Burglars are using another new modus operandi when breaking into residential properties: they are coming through the roof. Historically, break-ins through the roof affected commercial and industrial buildings only, and until recently, Knight Security Solutions (KSS) Operations staff had not seen a break-in through the roof of residential properties for more than 10 years.
KSS Operations staff have now, over the past three months, investigated six break-ins through the roof of residential properties. The burglars gain access into the property, then get on to the roof of the house. They know how to gain access at the furthest point from the bedrooms (so they are not heard). They remove a few roof tiles and then kick a hole through the ceiling board, enter the house and then steal items before leaving the same way.
To detect these housebreakers before they can get to the house, it is suggested that you install outdoor perimeter protection or a few specially designed motion sensors for ceiling spaces.
