Umgeni Waterfall Bowling Club
(Where the fun never ends)
Hot Off the Press
We are excited to announce that we have acquired the sponsorship of Knight Security Solutions.
Gary Preston, owner of KSS, generously put Knight Security Solutions forward as the sponsor of our
newly launched Development Fund. The Development Fund will be used to develop bowls within
the club and in any other way that the UWBC committee deem necessary to advance the sport of
lawn bowls as a family sport. We look forward to a long a healthy association with KSS.
Competitions
On Saturday 10 March we played our SUPERSPAR Greendale Trips competition. It turned out to be
a fabulously sunny afternoon with awesome bowls being played by members. The team of Margie
Holl, Enid Bush and Malcolm Tait won the SUPERSPAR Greendale sponsored first prize and the team
of Lyn Durandt, Graeme Cameron and Grace Abrahams won the Dr Alan Sara sponsored second
prize. There was also a lucky draw prize of a SUPERSPAR Greendale voucher, which was won by
Enid Bush. Thanks again to our valued sponsors for their support.
Our clubs 2018 Ladies and Men’s Singles competition is slowly but surely entering its final stages
with quarter and semi-final matches scheduled to be played over the next 10 days. Good luck to the
players that have made it through to this stage of the competition.
Club Activities
Club coach John Withers is appealing to all players who have put their names forward for the next
round of the league to please come and participate in skills training on a Friday afternoon at 2.30pm
– 3.30pm. Rinks are set out to facilitate a range of bowling activities. These activities challenged the
participants to concentrate on, among other things, the art of delivering the perfectly weighted jack
as well as drawing to within a mat length of the jack. These sessions will certainly stand our bowlers
in good stead when we enter the next round of league games in April. Members not involved in the
league are also encouraged to come and join us on Friday afternoons. If you as a member have
someone who would like to be taught how to bowl then this is a good time to bring them along.
Sessions are free of charge.
