'A dream doesn’t become a reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination and hard work' (Colin Powell). This quote depicts the achievements of the members of our club this past week. When the weatherman predicted rain for most of the week, including the weekend, there was a dreaded worry about possibly disappointing bowlers from all of PMB and the Midlands but alas, the weatherman got it wrong…. So here unfolds the results of the week…
Competitions
Wednesday 11 April we played our SUPERSPAR Greendale Competition which was won by the team of Jack Bush, Piet Van Rensburg and Barry Fairbrother. The Spar lucky draw prize was won by Derek Balfour and Mabel Tully won the 68 on Main sponsored lucky draw prize.
Then on Sunday 15 April, we had our All Day Halfway Toyota Howick Sponsored competition. We had bowlers from as far afield as Underberg, Wartburg, and PMB joining us on what was supposed to be a chilly wet day. It turned out to be an absolutely magical day. Halfway Toyota had two vehicles on display as well as numerous banners. Courtesy of Halfway Toyota Howick there were numerous prizes up for grabs on the day including session and plate prizes and lucky draw raffles. At the end of the day, bowlers came to play for the honour of winning one of the three main prizes which consisted of generous meat packs. The winners of the Halfway Toyota Howick sponsored competition was the team of Squire Flint, Allymay Bearpark and Patty Forbes from the Maritzburg West Club, second prize was won by Gordon Phipps, Doc Hartley and Gary Baleson from Mooi River Bowling Club and third prize was won by Karen Hartley, Beryl Osborne and Peter Storm from Underberg Bowling Club. Margie Wheelwright of Halfway Toyota was on hand at the end to hand out all the main prizes. We value and appreciate all that Halfway Toyota Howick does as sponsors to help us enjoy and promote this awesome game. We would also like to thank all our members for their generous contributions in, time, skills, eats etc and making this event such a success.
