Congratulations to Mark Taylor and Bev Vorster who both represented the club in the past weekend’s Champion of Champions NIBA competition in Pietermaritzburg. Mark lost a close match 21 – 19 but Bev went on to reach the final of the ladies competition, where she lost a 25 end final to Gwen the Champion from Lynwood. It was an absolutely brilliant weekend of bowling.
Competitions
So the weather man told us that we were going to have a maximum of 13 degrees on Women’s Day 9 August with 80 percent chance of rain. There was a minor contemplation of possibly cancelling our much anticipated J Leslie Smith & Co All Day Trips competition but we don’t scare that easily here at Umgeni Waterfall Bowling Club. So on Thursday 22 Teams braved the excruciating cold weather to play in the J Leslie Smith & Co Comp. What a brilliant day of bowling. To top it all…. The much anticipated rain did not arrive.
There was some exceptional bowling on the day and Umgeni Waterfall Bowling Club excelled in their hosting of the competition. The eventual winners of the competition were the team of Dennis Khanyile, Rodney Hoskins and Mark Bizaare representing Alexandra Bowling Club in PMB who not only walked away with the coveted 1st prize but also did the sought after “Full House of 9 shots” on a singular end.
Second prize went to the Howick Bowling Club team of Vic Rowell, Courtney Gace and Des Smith and third Prize went to the Mooi River / Lynwood team of Clark Logan, Doc Hartley and Gary Baleson. Over and above the main prizes, there were also session prizes, a Toucher prize as well as a Plate Prize.
As a club we are hugely appreciative of J Leslie Smith & Co who were once again the outstanding main sponsors of the competition. They were ably assisted by support sponsors Howick Travel, Misty Fall Spur and Umgeni Waterfall Bowling Club.
Thanks to all the J Leslie Smith & Co staff spearheaded by Lisa Nagel and the Umgeni Waterfall members who contributed behind the scenes with sorting out prizes, eats and raffles.
The success of days like these are about the collective energy of members and sponsors.
