 The UCSI is a registered Not-for-profit Company (NPC) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO). The UCSI is endorsed by the uMngeni Municipality and supported by SAPS Law Enforcement agencies, the Department of Transport, SANRAL and the N3TC to name a few. The UCSI is also level 2 BBBEE.

What is a Section 18A?
“The South African Government has recognised that certain organisations are dependent upon the generosity of the public, and to encourage that generosity, has provided a tax deduction for certain donations made by taxpayers.
The eligibility to issue tax deductible receipts is dependent on section 18A approval, and is restricted to specific approved organisations which use the donations to fund specific approved Public Benefit Activities - such as community safety through the use of SNIPR technology in the case of the UCSI.
A taxpayer making a bona fide donation in cash or of property in kind, to a section 18A-approved organisation, is entitled to a deduction from taxable income if the donation is supported by the necessary section 18A receipt issued by the organisation.
The annual tax deduction for donations to qualifying PBO’s (such as the UCSI NPC) in terms of section 18A is extremely generous – donations are deductible up to a maximum of 10% of the donors taxable income calculated after the inclusion of taxable capital gains.
An amendment that become effective on 1 March 2014 provides that in the event that a donor’s donations to qualifying PBO’s in a particular year of assessment exceed the abovementioned 10% limit, the excess can be carried forward and claimed as a deduction in the donor’s succeeding year of assessment. This amendment is welcomed as it allows a donor wishing to make a significant donation (exceeding 10% of the donor’s taxable income) to a PBO in a single year of assessment, without the donor sacrificing the tax benefits in making such a large donation in a single amount”. A section 18A can also be issued annually for the accumulated monthly contributions made to a PBO.
Gantry update
The UCSI is in need of CAPEX donations made towards the erection of the gantries, but MORE IMPORTANTLY is in need of the monthly OPEX membership donations made by business entities and private individuals. There are some gantries that have the full CAPEX amount to be erected, but are falling short with the OPEX. The UCSI are not able to get these gantries erected until each gantry is financially sustainable on a monthly basis.

Operations update
The UCSI has and is currently assisting local and cluster SAPS Detectives with regards to some serious crimes that have occurred in the Midlands area. The UCSI SNIPR network has proven to be very useful in these investigations.
The partnership between the UCSI, SAPS and local security companies has seen vehicle related crime decrease in the KZN Midlands area.
Please report stolen vehicles, or crimes involving vehicles to your local SAPS as soon as possible. Please also become a contributing member to the UCSI and advise our Operations Manager, Frans about such crimes so that valid and verified information can be loaded onto our UCSI SNIPR network timeously.
