This chick is 9 weeks old today!
After observing a few Wattled crane chicks I have definitely come to the conclusion that each chick has its own unique little character and personality!
These parents really have their hands full with this little chick. When they sense danger - a dog or predator, they will tell their chick to hide and then walk off in the opposite direction to draw the attention away from the chick but this little guy (or girl) definitely has a mind of its own!. Other chicks will hide and keep very still and not move. This chick will hide and almost seems to get bored as it will move from one clump of grass to the next, or pop it’s head up like a periscope, have a quick look around and then disappear. Just like a mischievous child. The parents are constantly talking to it and almost sound like the are scolding it!
