Treverton College has been championing the collaboration between academic and applied learning, to ensure students are able to matriculate as balanced, problem solvers. Their latest initiative to advocate the inclusion of this learning into Primary Schools, was the creation of the “Challenge Camp.” Primary Schools across KZN and Gauteng were invited to send a team of 5 Grade 6 students who could represent their school to take on the challenge and hopefully go home crowned the Challenge Camp Champions. The Challenge Camp was built for Grade 6 learners, and included challenges that were grounded in problem solving, outdoor activities and team work. The students arrived on Campus and immediately were challenged with kayaking, obstacle courses, chariot building, rock climbing, bridge building, pattern recognition, applied logic, creative thinking, pitching their own tents, cooking their own meals, war cries and more! After a fantastic weekend, the competition was fierce, with 1 point determining the winning team. Treverton Prep took first, but were closely contested by a strong team from Bedfordview Primary School. Third place was a tie position between learners from Merchiston, and a team made up from Howick Preparatory and Winterton Primary.
