Another week gone buy in a blur of “busyness” and bowls.
Let’s start by saying well done to our recent competition winners; Peter Burton and John Bailey won the Greendale Spar drawn trips competition on Saturday the 7th of October, with runners up being Julia Strachan and Ann Cacho. In the Halfway Toyota drawn trips competition played on Wednesday, 11th of October the winners were Colin Burden, Wendy Smith, and Rob Lolli, while the runners up were Koos Marais, Dave Mainprize and Chantelle D’Hotman. Well done to all who participated and a big thanks to our sponsors!
Over the past weekend we had a team of ten ladies and ten men enter the Sanders Trophy and Frank Lambert inter-club competitions. This is such a wonderful format with each side consisting of fours, trips, pairs and singles and all teams playing at the same time. The ladies played against Hilton on Saturday afternoon where they took a win in the singles and fours match, however the final shot difference on the day saw Hilton go through to the next round. In the men’s competition we suffered four losses against Maritzburg West, but as is often the case with bowls it wasn’t a true reflection of how our gents played. Both sides can be very proud of the standard of bowls they played, and we look forward to entering this competition next year again.
Another very special congratulations must be made to Sindi Hlongwane who has been selected as our Knight Security Solutions Development Player for 2023/2024. We are very lucky to receive a monthly development fund donation from Knight Security which we use to sponsor a player who shows dedication and commitment to not only our club but to the sport of bowls. Sindi has shown both in the last year club and we have been so pleased to watch how her game has improved. Not only does she take part in regular competitions and tabs in, but she’s also been a valuable member of our league team in the past season. Well done Sindi! We know we’re going to see some amazing bowls from you!
In other news, we’re very happy to be doing some much needed maintenance to the thatch roof at the clubhouse. With constant repairs being needed, we’ve decided to “bite the bullet” and are placing an additional layer of thatch on the roof over the bar and snooker room, with a view to doing the same on the main clubhouse and tearoom in the future. Whilst it’s quite an expensive venture for a small club, it will definitely have a great impact on the overall appearance of the club.
A new competition which we will be hosting on Wednesday, 25th of October will be the Amberglades Sizzling 60’s 2 Bowl Trips, and each team must have at least two players who are at least 60. Thank you to Amberglades who will be sponsoring some wonderful first prize hampers, as well as a 2nd and plate prize. For more information or to enter a team, please contact Sharon on 082 900 5944.
That’s all for this week… see you on the greens!
