Eighty-four bridge enthusiasts gathered for the afternoon at Amber Lee on Tuesday 18th June to play a few rubbers and raise funds for the uMngeni SPCA. The event was organised by Ann Morrow and SPCA Events Committee volunteers Diana Heathcote and Mary Webb.
Before the first cards were dealt, Mary updated the players on the monthly costs involved in running the Society, delivering on their mandate to prevent cruelty to all animals. Mary elaborated that, “The geographical area for which the uMngeni SPCA is responsible is extensive. Their only sources of funding are donations, testamentary bequests from wills and revenue generated from the three Charity Shops and the Garden and Book Centre located on Howick’s Main Road. There is no finance from government. Our community support is vital for their survival.”
Participants collectively donated a whopping R12,500 for which we are deeply grateful. Similar bridge events are in the pipeline.
