If your cat is going outside their litter box, these are six things they may be trying to tell you.
“The box is not as fresh as I like. Clean it more often and replace old boxes.”
“I do not like to share, we need more boxes. Make sure there is one box per cat, plus an extra, and spread them around the house.”
“I do not like where the box is placed. Move it away from high traffic areas, but do not box me into a corner with no escape route.”
“This box does not fit me. I need a larger box, at least 1.5 times my body length, with no roof above my head.”
“I do not like this fancy perfumed litter. Can we try unscented, non-clumping next time?”
“I do not feel well. Please take me for a vet visit to be sure I am not getting sick.”
Helpful Tip: If your cat is toileting over the side of the litter tray, cut away the front of a cardboard box and slide the litter box snuggly inside of it to create 3 taller side-walls. Your cat will then naturally position themselves in the middle of the litter tray!
