Howick’s Ambers communities have unfailingly supported the uMngeni SPCA. KZN is experiencing a surge in rabies cases, one of the deadliest infectious diseases known to man. The most common cause is humans being bitten by infected animals. Annual vaccinations are imperative for dogs and cats. Rabies vaccinations are paid for by the Department of Agriculture, so the cost is not a factor. But It’s often problematic for residents to transport pets to a vet. As a practical display of thanks, uMngeni SPCA has embarked on a programme of outreach visits to local residential estates.
The first was during the morning inside Amber Valley on Tuesday 18th March. All Greater Ambers residents were invited to bring “four-legged furries” along for rabies vaccinations, nail clipping, dental evaluations and general health checks; all free of charge. Resident vet Dr. Margie Gatley-Roach was on hand to carry out checks and dispense advice while other staff team members managed and vaccinated the steady stream of parents and pets.
If your estate would like to arrange a visit call Kevin Khumalo 033 330 4557 during office hours.
