The Midlands Hiking Club recently embarked on an unforgettable outing to the Karkloof Safari Spa, nestled in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. This private game reserve is where wild beauty meets serene stillness, and our hikers were treated to a day that will be remembered for a lifetime.
From the moment we set out, the reserve revealed its treasures: to mention a few species - giraffe, zebra, buffalo, nyala, waterbuck and the cutest newborns roaming freely across untamed landscapes. Guided by the knowledgeable volunteers of the Lions River KZN Ezemvelo Honorary Rangers, our group enjoyed safe passage and fascinating insights into the environment and its inhabitants.
The highlight of the day? The Boardwalk to the base of the iconic Karkloof Falls. As we approached, the thunderous cascade greeted us with a misty spray, cooling our faces with magical droplets of water. Standing there, surrounded by lush forest and the roar of the falls, we felt the pure essence of nature – powerful, healing, and breathtaking.
