Upcoming Open Midlands Garden: Sat 7 & Sun 8 Nov.
The gardens of Michaelhouse School have long been an integral part of the character and beauty of this historic Midlands campus, complementing the school's distinctive red-brick architecture and providing a tranquil setting for students, staff and visitors.
At the heart of the landscape are the impressive front gardens, designed by renowned landscape designer Tim Steyn. Their elegant formal layout, featured in The Gardener magazine, centres around a striking water feature and the iconic statue of St Michael and the dragon, creating a landscape that is both visually impressive and quietly contemplative.
Although formal in design, the gardens have a welcoming simplicity, with carefully maintained lawns, structured planting and mature trees contributing to an atmosphere of calm and permanence. Sustainable gardening practices, including the use of organic products wherever possible, ensure the gardens continue to flourish while respecting the surrounding environment.
Visitors are invited to stroll through the grounds and experience the beauty of the gardens before exploring the school's beautifully refurbished and expanding chapel, another architectural highlight of the campus. As Michaelhouse is a vibrant, working school, visitors may also enjoy the lively atmosphere created by sporting fixtures and other school activities taking place during the weekend.
A visit can be rounded off with refreshments at the on-site coffee shop, making this a wonderful opportunity to experience one of the Midlands' most beautiful educational campuses.
