Every so often, we have a query from a family whose loved one has passed away on foreign soil. The usual issue is that they can't use the foreign death certificate for local estate purposes.
Should their relative have a SA ID number, this process needn't be strenuous, and we can assist. The first matter, before approaching our local home affairs, is to ensure that the foreign death certificate is in English. If this is not the case, it will need to be officially translated, which generally includes a cost and a court stamp being affixed to the translation.
All these documents (Deceased ID, Official death certificate plus translation if applicable along with the family member's ID who is reporting the death) needs to be presented at any Home Affairs office by the family members whose ID is in the supporting documents.
We offer this as a service to our clients, and strongly recommend that you engage with us to ensure that there are no unique requirements to your registration before attempting a visit to home affairs, which is also accompanied by an Oakleigh Staff member.
