Blesbok lambs are born a uniform creamy tan color in contrast to the adults which are a deep rich brown with several distinct markings on their bodies, including a brilliant white blaze. This Juvenile is currently transitioning into an adult.
We know this for several reasons. Coat color and pattern being the most obvious, followed by subtle behavioral changes that indicate a change in hormones. Before this Blesbok transitions into an adult, it will be released into a population of Blesbok. This will allow it to mentally transition into adulthood in the presence of wild Blesbok exhibiting natural behavior, a crucial and time sensitive consideration during the rehabilitation process.
