Shining Light on the Silent Battle - Youth Mental Health
As promoters of diversity and inclusion at Howick High School, our Diversity Committee takes this opportunity to shine a spotlight on the silent struggle that many of our peers face daily. In the corridors of adolescence, among the laughter and cheerfulness, lies a topic often whispered about, yet rarely openly discussed: youth mental health.
In the depths of our minds, battles against anxiety, depression, and self-doubt are fought. Yet, in a society that often prioritizes appearance over reality, these battles are frequently fought alone because of the fear of being called "soft", "weak" or "not strong-enough".
This Youth Day, let's embark on a journey of empathy, sympathy and understanding. Let's break down the barriers of shame and stigma, replacing them with pillars of support and acceptance. For in embracing our struggles, we find strength.
Together, we can rewrite the narrative surrounding youth mental health.
